The Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization (BRAVO) is deeply saddened by the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub, an LGBTQI Nightclub in Orlando Florida early this morning. 50 People are dead and 53 are wounded, some of them gravely. Our hearts and minds are with their families, friends, and communities in the wake of this heinous incident. This is the worst and deadliest mass shooting in modern US history and it comes in the midst of LGBTQI Pride Month.
While we don’t know much about motive yet, it certainly feels like a hate crime and is affecting every LGBTQI person. So many of us have been in a crowded gay bar that the feeling of “it could have been me…” is real and painful. As with the murder of Mathew Shepard, every LGBTQI person will always remember where we were when we heard this horrific news.
BRAVO is organizing a community vigil this evening (Sunday June 12, 2016) in conjunction with Stonewall Columbus, and Axis/Union Nightclubs to give our community an opportunity to gather in solidarity and begin to grieve together. Our community will be gathering at 7:30 PM at the Gazebo stage at Goodale Park. After a brief gathering – we will march to Union where we will be tying black and rainbow ribbons to honor the victims and survivors of this tragedy
If you or anyone you know have experienced violence contact BRAVO - we can help! (614) 294-7867 or 866-86-BRAVO.
