BRAVO official public statement: Black Lives Matter!

Aaron Eckhardt - Saturday, July 09, 2016

Black Lives Matter!

We will not be silent!

We in the LGBTQI communities throughout history have experienced hate and bias. We are outraged and deeply saddened as we continue to see violence and senseless murder of black people in our society.

At The Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization (BRAVO) we understand the truth behind Silence = Death. We stand in solidarity, unapologetically proclaiming loudly that Black Lives Matter! We will remember and say the names Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, black men added to the list of so many unjustifiably slain at the hands of law enforcement. We seek justice and demand accountability.

We also believe that all humanity deserves just, fair, and accountable community law enforcement and strongly condemn the killing of the police officers in Dallas. As an organization founded to fight oppression and violence, we are committed to work toward safety, peace and wellbeing for everyone. BRAVO does not condone violence toward anyone, and will never align with, support, or endorse any organization or people that promote violence in any form.

We will not stand silent in the shadows as our black and brown siblings are slain, while people rationalize from places of privilege. We implore and call to action all LGBTQI and allied organizations to join in solidarity with communities of color.

In solidarity and community with those living every day recognizing that our authentic existence is a revolutionary act of resilience and bravery. BRAVO will continue to illuminate injustice, fight oppression, understand our privilege where it exists, and offer unwavering support and love to those battling violence, hate, and bias. That is the only way we will survive.

We must embrace not erase identity! So, we rise again. We rise still. We rise for Black Lives Matter, and for all who can no longer rise. We will rise until hate has no home in Ohio, until hate has no home anywhere.

Much love and light to everyone.
